  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 pound ground veal

  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese


  1. Heat a large pot over medium heat and add the ground beef, pork, and veal. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in the red wine and cook for 2 minutes, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and milk. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Let it simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. Before serving, stir in the chopped basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
